The Lowcountry Highrollers are back! Our exciting 2012 kicks off with MILITIA OF LOVE, featuring the LCHR All-Stars and Bruisin’ Betties in a rematch against the Charlotte Roller Girls All-Stars and B Dazzlers!Doors open at 4:00PM, and the first whistle blows at 4:30PM a…s the Bruisin’ Betties take on the B Dazzlers. The Betties were edged out by the B Dazz in both meetings last year, and they are out for a little payback!The LCHR All-Stars will go skate to skate with the Charlotte All-Stars at 6:00PM. Both leagues earned their acceptance into the WFTDA East region last season, so the stakes are even higher in this bout as the outcome will count towards the teams’ rankings.

Anonymous asked: I'm trying to start a roller derby team, but there is no skate rink in my town. There are 2 county-owned rec centers and one privately owned rec center. All have basketball facilities, would that work for a rink? I also recall the private facility having a roller hockey rink, but that was 10 years ago when it first opened, and I haven't been there since. How should I go about this?! Any tips? I want to make this happen so badly!

A lot of teams will practice at local community centers on basketball courts. Sometimes the surface isn’t ideal, and often you can only lay a temporary track with cones, but roller derby exploded in popularity because skaters with a “make it work” attitude went out and made it happen! Best of luck!
